Art Lover’s Paradise: Miami Art Week Must-See Attractions

Basel Tov! It’s all about art and design in Miami this week. With a plethora of fairs, events, and activities, navigating this week can be hectic; here is a run-down of the can’t miss attractions happening during Miami Art Week.

This year, a huge number of major constituents have moved their venues to the Downtown neighborhood surrounding One River Point, emphasizing the geographic shift of the Miami art scene from the beach to the river.

  1. Miami River Art Fair

Miami River Art Fair

We’re starting off this week’s run-down of Miami Art Week with a spotlight on our downstream neighbor’s art fair, the Miami River Art Fair. Mirroring One River Point’s flair for art on the river, this burgeoning art fair is located in the Riverfront Hall of the James L. Knight International Center.

As with our own Riverfront Park, the fair will also utilize its outdoor pavilion for large-scale sculptural installations. With a commitment to vivifying the Miami River, the fair’s programming and partnerships are focused on launching Downtown Miami as a must-visit destination for art enthusiasts.

Be sure to check out the dedicated artist booths at the fair, in which artist’s exhibit their work independent of galleries for unique insights into their practice.

Known as the art fair par excellence, Art Basel is taking to Miami Beach for its beachside iteration.

ART MIAMI + CONTEXT

One River Point’s Downtown Miami neighborhood is welcoming new art fairs this season: Art Miami and its sister fair CONTEXT Art Miami are moving to the former site of The Miami Herald.

Responding to the expanding art scene and amenities in Downtown Miami, Art Miami anticipates expanded opportunities for its collectors and community in their new locale. In addition to cutting-edge art presentations of 20th-century and contemporary art, visitors can enjoy beautiful riverfront views with a viewing deck and outdoor cafés.

Design Miami

As with One River Point’s integrative approach to art and design, Design Miami/ occurs annually alongside Art Basel Miami Beach to build a global forum for design.

This fair seeks to introduce general public to design as a collectible commodity and provide an accessible destination for existing collectors. Beyond opportunities for acquisitions, the fair has a strong educational component, hosting panels and lectures with contributors from broad backgrounds including design, architecture, art, and fashion.

  1. The Institute of Contemporary Art Miami

The Institute of Contemporary Art Miami

The Institute of Contemporary Art Miami opened their new home in the Design District in the midst of Miami’s art season last Friday. The bespoke three-story building will allow the museum to expand its imprint in the contemporary art world, beginning with its inaugural exhibition in the new space “The Everywhere Studio.”

Exploring the import of the artist’s studio from the postwar to contemporary moment, as it developed as a thematic referent and subject matter, the exhibition includes 100 works by over 50 artists. As ICA Miami grows into its new space, One River Point looks forward to collaborations with this leading contemporary museum.
